The obvious place to look for leprechauns is at the end of a rainbow somewhere in Ireland. Unfortunately, most of us probably won’t get to the Emerald Isle for St. Patrick’s Day 2010. So here are 10 places, outside of Ireland where you just might spot a leprechaun. And remember, if you do come across one, don’t take your eyes off him or he’ll disappear before turning over his pot of gold!
According to Hostelworld.com, a global leader providing online reservation to budget, independent and youth travelers, the top 10 St, Patrick’s Day Destinations (other than Ireland) are:
- New York
- San Francisco
- Washington, D.C.
It’s difficult to determine which of the top three alternate destinations holds out the most promise of leprechaun sightings.
Although Boston originated the tradition of St. Patrick’s Day parades in the U.S., it’s is New York’s annual green fete that draws the biggest crowds boasting more than 150,000 marchers. There just has to be a leprechaun or two among the crowd of approximately 2 million packing the streets for this event, doesn’t there?
Not to be outdone, Chicago actually holds two St. Patrick’s Day parades, one downtown and one on the South Side. The city has also been dying its river green since the 1960’s.
There you have it. The top ten places (outside of Ireland) to look for leprechauns. Happy Hunting!
