Life & Death, Comedy & Action balance in Rosario + Vampire: Season II

What would you do if you enrolled in a boarding school for monsters?

“They’re sexy, they’re undead and unlike any student body you’ll find,” said Elizabeth Kawasaki, VIZ Media Senior Editorial Director. “The popularity of the vampire genre has exploded in the wake of films like Twilight and TV shows like True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, but it’s also long been a favorite subject for manga. ROSARIO +VAMPIRE: SEASON II continues to find Tsukune’s life at Yokai Academy anything but normal. Readers will want to hold on tight to the page, and their souls, with this exciting new action comedy release for VIZ Media and Shonen Jump Advanced.”

Normal humans, of course, aren’t supposed to know the preternatural world exists so when teenager Tsukune enters Yokai Academy, he’s entering another world, literally. This school is full of werewolves, witches, vampires and other preternatural beings.

All the girls have a major crush on him. As for the other guys, well, they are jealous enough to kill him. Then there’s Moka, a not-so-average vampire who only has glowing red eyes for Tsukune (ok, that didn’t come out quite right, but you get my drift – she LIKES him). Unfortunately, like Edward Cullen, she also thirsts for her sweethearts blood. Talk about you challenging teenage romances!

Find out how this all plays out when ROSARIO + VAMPIRE: SEASON II hits newsstands and comic book stores across North America on 6 April 2010.  ROSARIO + VAMPIRE: SEASON II, published under the Shonen Jump Advanced imprint, is rated “T+” and appropriate for older teens and adults. The MSRP is $9.99 (US) or $12.99 (CAN).

ROSARIO + VAMPIRE debuted in 2004. Created by Akihisa Ikeda, who first stepped into the preternatural universe in 2002 with the four-volume magical warrior fantasy KRUTO  (serialized in Japan’s Monthly Shonen Jump magazine), ROSARIO + VAMPIRE has also spawned an animated series and a drama DVD produced by studio Gonzo.

Note to Ms. Kawasaki: preternatural teens and those who just look like teens do attend school, the Cullens attend the public high school in Forks, witches and wizards attend Hogwarts in Britain and a ghost and other (vampires and monsters) attend Mendenham Hall also in Britain (that was HEX, for those who didn’t know).

DOROHEDORO is another preternatural title from the folks at VIZ Media preternatural fans may want to check out!
