No surprise here. The eighth and final installment of international favorite Artemis Fowl series will be brought to North American bookshelves by Disney-Hyperion Books next year. What may surprise some readers is that the imprint from Disney Worldwide Publishing will also be bringing a the first two-books of a new series, W.A.R.P, from Artemis Fowl author Eoin Colfer to shelves beginning in 2013.
Eoin Colfer has been delighting readers around the globe with the bes-selling Artemis Fowl Series since 2001. Starring an irresistible antihero, the readers (theoretically middle-schoolers) follow Artemis through numerous James Bond-like adventures. The final adventure The Last Guardian will be published in Summer 2012.
“As the Artemis Fowl series hits its tenth year in print, we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with brand-new books from Eoin Colfer that are bound to be equally ambitious, imaginative and witty,” said Stephanie Owens Lurie, Editorial Director, Disney-Hyperion. “W.A.R.P. promises to be a wild ride, with trips through time and a deliciously evil villain in hot pursuit of our young hero. Let’s just hope Artemis doesn’t get jealous!”
The first book in the brand-new W.A.R.P. series, The Reluctant Assassin, is due to hit shelves in Winter 2013, according to Disney. Young Riley is an assassin who has fallen into the F.B.I’s W.A.R.P. (Witness Anonymous Relocation Program) after a murderous escapade with a Victorian illusionist. Transported to modern-day London, Riley must manage to evade the illusionist while still preventing his return to their own Victorian time. The knowledge both gain about the scientific and technological discoveries awaiting their time could literally change the world meaning both are stuck in the present.
“W.A.R.P. is an exciting new venture for me that combines a love of Victorian crime fiction, which I developed from reading Sherlock Holmes, and my fascination with Science fiction, which has always been a hallmark of my books,” Colfer explains. “W.A.R.P. is dark and funny and hopefully thrilling, and I am over the moon that Disney-Hyperion Books is prepared to journey into the past and future with me.”
