Today is Wednesday, right? Two more days until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 opens in theatres?
And yet, somehow, the final installment of the Harry Potter film series has worked its magic, selling out more than 5,000 showtimes, according to Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination, selling tickets to more than 16,000 screens nation-wide. In fact, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has sold more tickets through Fandango than any other movie this year, including pre-release and post-release ticket sales.
“It’s out fastest-selling movie of the year and our best-selling ‘Potter’ movie of all time,” said Rick Butler, Fandango Executive Vice President and General Manager. “So many film fans grew up with ‘Harry Potter’ and want to celebrate the series conclusion together on the big screen. The first ‘Potter’ helped put advance ticketing on the map in 2001, so in some ways, Fandango as a company grew up with ‘Potter’ as well. It’s fitting that the grand finale would break records with fans on our Web site and mobile applications.”
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is currently conjuring up 91 percent of Fandango’s daily ticket sales. Not only have more than 5,000 showtimes for the film already sold out, theater owners are continually posting additional showtimes in order to meet American demand.
Preternatural films, by the way, top the pre-sales ticket list. Fandango’s top pre-sellers of all time are:
- The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
- The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)
- Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)
As noted above, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 already leads this year’s top-sellers list and that’s just on pre-sales. When you add in the post-release ticket sales, Transformers: Dark of the Moon which is currently topping Rentrak’s list of top box-office earners comes in third followed by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at Number 4.
Have you got your tickets yet? The end starts Friday, 15 July, 2011….
The Viscera 2011 Film Festival is just around the corner. This amazing event honoring women filmmakers in the horror genre is one we at The Preternatural Post would love to bring to you firsthand, from the bloody red carpet through the screening 16 short horror films, an awards show and creator Q & A right on to the After Party!
But we can’t do it without your help.
The Preternatural Post is entirely reader supported. That means, in order for us to cover this one-of-a-kind event (as well and general news and other special events around the nation) we need you to foot the bill. So we’re begging. We only have a few days to raise the funds needed to cover travel expenses and equipment rental for a 2-person team to attend Viscera 2011.
We estimate we need to raise $100 per day between now and the event. Please, help us out!
And if you’d like to donate more than that, or sponsor the entire trip, we’d love to discuss the possibilities. Please Contact Us!
