Contrary to popular belief, Comic Con in San Diego isn’t the only thing going on in the preternatural community this weekend. In fact, the Lifetime Channel is airing a new J.K. Rowling bio-pic this weekend that you might want to catch.
“This is about a woman who decided to persevere, to keep on with her dream. She was on welfare and she really hit rock bottom,” said Paul A. Kaufman, director and executive producer of Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story.
The 90-minute made-for-television film premiered on the Lifetime cable network on 18 July, 2011. Magic Beyond Words is just one unauthorized biography of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling (played by Poppy Mongomery as an adult, Madison Desjarlais, who also appeared as Haley in the Lights Out episode of The Haunting Hour: The Series, as a teenager and Aislyn Watson as a child) created in recent years. This version of the J.K. Rowling story captures the writer’s modest upbringing and her stint on welfare as well as her rise to fame and wealth as the creator of the beloved Harry Potter children’s books.
“It is an inspirational story of one of the most celebrated authors of all time, one that would pave the way for many aspiring writers,” said P. Jayakumar, CEO of Toonz Group. “We are excited to be associated with such a landmark project and are quite hopeful of a positive response from the audience.”
Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story is produced by Strange Magic Productions, Inc. Toonz Global Inc., Mediaman Inc. and Orly Adelsen Production. Joining Emmy® Award-winner Kaufaman as executive producers are Jayakamur (Wolverine and the X-Men and Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight), Orley Adelsen (The Good Witch) and others. Jeffrey Berman and Tony Caballero wrote the script based on the “first full-length biography” J.K. Rowling A Biography (1999) by Sean Smith.
Encore showing of Magic Beyond Words will air tonight and Sunday night on the Lifetime Channel. Check your local listings and cable provider for exact times and stations. The J.K. Rowling Story is also available for instant video purchase through Amazon.com. The DVD will become available in October, however, it can be pre-ordered now. Toonz Entertainment will also distribute the movie in other international territories, including India.
