True Blood takes a bite out of Comic Con ’11

“There are a lot of Vampire sagas in pop culture right now. There are a lot at Comic Con. Some of those actually involve vamps, weres and witches. But there’s something different about True Blood. These vamps, and these demons, and these werewolves have sex. They have lots of hot sex. Tons of hot sex. They’re really eccentric.”

Tim Stack (Entertainment Weekly)

Fans flocked from all over to San Deigo, CA for the 2011 Comic Con True Blood panel. Hosted by Entertainment Weekly‘s Tim Stack, the panel took place on Friday evening. In attendance for the big event was:

  • True Blood creator, Alan Ball
  • Sookie Stackhouse, Anna Paquin
  • Bill Compton, Stephen Moyer
  • Eric Northman, Alexander Skarsgard
  • Jason Stackhouse, Ryan Kwanten
  • Tara Thornton, Rutina Wesley
  • Lafayette Reynolds, Nelson Ellis
  • Pam Swynford de Beaufort, Kristin Bauer
  • Jesus Velasquez, Kevin Alejandro

Missing from the lineup is Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte), whose girlfriend, Missy Yager, is due to give birth to twins any day now. He posted his apologies to his fans on his personal twitter:

“Sorry to say I won’t be at Comic-Con. The babies are due any time and I need to be close to home.”

Also missing was Joe Manganiello, who plays the furry potential future love interest of Sookie’s, Alcide Herveaux. Filming his latest project in Atlanta, he was unable to get away from shooting long enough to attend the event.

The crowd was highly enthusiastic as was the cast itself. From sharing audition stories to tiptoeing around fan questions for what’s to come, the panel is an enjoyment to watch and we’ve included the footage for all to view. Alan teases fans of the book, Dead to the World, by saying:

“There will be a moment where Sookie and Eric are together in the shower. It may not be exactly what happens in the books. It may be weirder. And dirtier.”

The biggest tease of all was released prior to the cast appearing on stage. The sneak peek for the rest of the season shows that things are just heating up and only will become hotter as the season progresses.

A few key details about Season 5 were revealed, including a hint about a Hooligan’s-like club appearing and having a supernatural undertone. Perhaps this will be where the lovely, Natasha Alam’s “Yvetta”, will be working in her return to the show? If so, will Alan follow the course of the books and allow Claudine’s brother, Claude Crane to run the establishment?

Is Arlene’s baby truly evil?

Will Eric and Sookie ever get together?

Has the time for Bill and Sookie passed for good?

Teases and hints galore and yet, nothing set in stone was revealed. Nonetheless, all will be revealed throughout the rest of season.
